Our Founding Principles
- Evidence matters. Our laws should be grounded in evidence, not fear, myth or political
expediency. - Redemption is possible. Once a person has been held accountable, they deserve the chance to
work towards a positive, productive future as a law-abiding citizen.
The Problem
- Instead of making communities safer, Illinois laws push tens of thousands of families into
unemployment, housing instability, and marginalization. - Illinois’ current regime of registries, residential banishment, and permanent punishments waste
enormous public resources on polices that have repeatedly been proven to be ineffective.
Our Goals
- We advocate for evidence-based policies that actually reduce harm, respect civil rights, and
recognize that accountability and redemption can coexist. Safer communities are built through
stability, opportunity, and fairness—not permanent punishment.
